How Do We Help Our Emerging Leaders to Develop Good Judgment?

The leadership student must gain an understanding of core competencies and behavioral science theories through reading, case studies, role playing, and practical applications on the job.

The initial process takes place over a period of twelve months. The leadership student is given tasks to perform. The tasks must be completed on time, on budget, and according to standards. After successful completion of each task, the leadership student will be given a series of increasingly difficult tasks to perform. This process continues with small team leadership roles. The strident must pass each task before moving on.The student is allowed one re-test. If the student fails the re-test, the student is dropped from the course.

By putting the student through an aggressive program of study with real world challenges and pressures, facing the possibility of failure, the student will be forced to make judgments in the safety of a training program. Leadership training is where mistakes can be made and are expected, while gaining valuable experience and improved judgment.

Gaining good judgment is a combination of experience, education and feedback. By designing a program where you have to earn the title of leader, rather than be appointed or selected, I believe the future is bright for emerging leaders.

I’ll see you in the front row of success.
